The Maze Runner - James Dashner 1.5 What can I say about this book other than it was pretty bad. I will start off saying I listened to the Audiobook version and maybe that colored my view, but I doubt it. I loved the idea of this book, it seemed original enough that it could be similar to the hungergames but not a copy. I'm 23 years old and feel that regardless of if I am reading a YA novel the book should not seem drastically below my reading level. This book is written as if for very slow and uncomprehending readers. Dashner is repetitive and seems to think his readers unable to remember minor details (that are irrelevant in the first place mind you). However my main gripe about this book is Thomas the main character. Thomas is possibly the worst main character I have come across and within a few chapters I was seriously hoping some major parel or horrible accident would happen to him (yes I disliked him that much). I hated him almost from the start. He whines, he has a ridiculous sense of entitlement, and is completely un empathetic to any of the other characters. With all this being said the book left me feeling angry that I had listened to 9 hours of bad writing but I was curious enough to Wiki the endings of the other books. Guess it was interesting enough for me to want to know what happened. However the other person in the car with me couldn't have cared less and disliked the book even more he said "give it zero stars". Overall it was more than a zero but if you are looking for anything similar in feeling to the Hunger games in quality this does not even come close.
